When we are designing new websites for clients, we always recommend including a blog on the site. At this point in the conversation, a lot of clients get that “deer in the headlights” look. I can almost read their minds, “What? I can’t blog. I don’t know what to write about. No one is going to read it. I don’t know enough to blog. I don’t have time to blog. I’m too busy!” It might be seem scary, but there are so many benefits of blogging on your website.
Better Search Engine Traffic
The more content you have on your website, the more opportunities for searches to return your site as a result. Each time you write a blog post it one more page on your site that gets indexed as searchable content. Also, websites that are consistently updated with new content are rewarded by search engines with better visibility.
Shows Your Authentic Self
Your blog posts give you the opportunity to share your personality, build trust and show your interests to clients and potential clients. By being authentic, you are giving your clients a glimpse into your world and what you are passionate about. Potential clients will connect with you and potentially be more interested in working with you in the future because they felt a connection with you personally.
Support Your Social Media
By blogging consistently, you always have content to share on your social media accounts. Keep in mind that one blog post can be share multiple ways and multiple times on different platforms. You can share a quote from the blog post with a photo on Instagram, a link to the blog post on Facebook, and a graphic from the post on your Pinterest account. In addition, blog posts provide great content for your email newsletters.
Establish Yourself as an Expert
If you are consistently creating content that is helpful for your clients or potential clients, that will identify you as an expert or authority in the industry. I find the best blog content typically comes from questions and conversations you have with current clients. If you have multiple clients asking the question, then there are probably a multitude of other potential clients out there with the same question. By blogging about what you know best, you are establishing yourself as an expert in your industry.
The above are just a few benefits of blogging on your website. Overall, blogging on your website is one of the best ways to stand out from the other businesses in your industry. Blogging is an extremely cost-effective way to market yourself to potential clients and will draw more traffic to your website. If you are interested in discussing blogging more or having questions about generating content for your website, we’d love to help!
