Well, first things first, we met in a bar in downtown Annapolis about 17 years and have been married for 15 of those years. We have two amazing children - boy/girl twins - that are 13 years old. For our 10 year anniversary, we renewed our vows in the city that we met and fell in love. While it was one of the highlights of our lives, we decided that for our 20 year anniversary, we just need to go away on a long vacation together. Our top five list of destinations currently includes Ireland-Scotland, Hawaii-Oahu, Sonoma, Key West and Italy.
We are a team in every sense of the word and even have a hashtag to prove it, #teambarnhill. And, together, we use our individual strengths to support your business and make it successful.
After graduating college, the first seven years of my career were with a large management and information systems consulting firm. I found myself in the telecommunications industry and spent my days immersed in the software development lifecycle -- from requirements to coding and implementation. While I was proud of my work, I didn't enjoy my life. So, I decided to make a change, took a leap of faith, and started my design business -- wedding stationery design. Through the past 15 years, I have grown Allison Barnhill Designs from one client a year to over 300 per year. I have repeatedly won five separate "best invitations" awards in the MD/Annapolis/Baltimore market. Also, my work has been published in multiple wedding publications inlcuding Style Me Pretty, Southern Weddings, The Knot, Bayside Bride, Baltimore Bride and I've been featured on FOX 45 on multiple occassions.
Over the years, one of my favorite things has been mentoring other designers who want to start their stationery design business. Now, with Business by Barnhill, I'm able to share my many years of experience and knowledge with more entrepreneurs looking to grow their business into something successful, meaningful and remarkable.
I have been working in the accounting industry for over 20 years. I started at the bottom, so to speak, with accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll positions and then moved up through the ranks to become the Chief Financial Officer. I have served as Controller for a $30 million per year contractor. I then moved on to being the General Accounting Manager for a $130 million per year government research contractor. Finally, I had the opportunity to become Chief Financial Officer for a startup that grew to over $5 million per year.
Although, I had reached the pinnacle of corporate accounting, I found myself wanting more. I was drawn to entrepreneurship and decided to start my own business, helping other small businesses with their financial success. I have the opportunity to help countless organizations form and build. And, in that process, I have found where my passion truly lies. While I enjoy assisting many small businesses with their accounting, I love to help others find a way to turn their passion into a successful business.
Business by Barnhill has grown by leaps and bounds and we couldn't do it all without our amazing team. You can learn more about each of these impressive individuals under their Services page.
